Bring the dates, water and bicarbonate of soda to the boil.
Reserve to one side and allow to cool.

Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy

Add the eggs to the butter and sugar, mix well

Sieve the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder together.
Then fold through the cake mix.
