New rules for the labelling of flavourings
The EU Regulation 1334/2008 on flavourings
defines new rules for the labelling of flavourings and natural
flavourings.
To comply with this Regulation Callebaut has reviewed the
composition and labelling of all flavourings used in the
production of our products based on the information
obtained by the flavourings’ suppliers. All vanilla flavourings were evaluated by end of 2009
which you will already be aware of.
For the other flavourings, the changes as detailed below will be implemented gradually as of 24 November 2010 in the labelling of our products.
As can be seen below, depending on the composition of the flavouring, some natural flavourings now need to be described with their specific name. This means that it is possible that the labelling of the flavouring in your product needs to be adapted.
Please note that foods placed on the market or labelled before 20 January 2011 which do not comply with these new rules may be marketed until their date of minimum durability or use-by-date. However, food labelled as of 20 January 2011 need to be in line with the flavouring declarations according to the new Regulation.
We kindly advice you to contact your Callebaut representative to receive a new technical sheet in the case the above changes apply to your products or if you will have problems with the proposed changes.
