For great chocolate, farmers need to grow great cocoa
For over 100 years, craftsmen have relied on the great taste of
their Callebaut® Finest Belgian Chocolate: a taste that is mastered
by our cocoa experts, starting from the best cocoa beans. But how
can we guarantee great taste tomorrow too, knowing that cocoa
cultivation is under strain?
Cocoa is a complex crop that demands just the right climate
conditions, a healthy soil and great care. In West Africa, where
most of the world’s cocoa is grown, depleted soil, poor farming
practices, aging trees and aging farmers have led to a decline in
cocoa productivity.
In order to keep our promise of quality from bean to chocolate, and understanding the need to help guarantee great taste tomorrow, Callebaut® started the Growing Great Chocolate™ programme: a partnership between Callebaut® and cocoa farmer cooperatives to educate farmers on better cultivation methods for better yields, and enabling a direct and sustainable source of income for cocoa farmers and their families.
